Fall Harvest

Drool all you Northerners.
If you saw my pictures of my sisters tomatoes and mine, you realized how too much heat can ruin a great crop.  Well here's to my Minnesota family.  I just picked these yesterday and still have blossoms on the green beans.  I rule now.  John and I have learned a lot this summer on how heat can hinder growth as well as the short season in Minnesota.  Next year we will blow my sisters tomatoes away. Well easy to say because by next year my treat will be forgotten.

Moral of this story, gloat when you can.

Family and Fun

I have been a little absent because of my family visiting. They are wonderful people, as all of my family. Relaxing, a glass of wine at night before dinner and a little touring. I am a day behind but who really cares. Smile. On a beautiful day we went to the only surviving covered bridge in South Carolina. With picnic lunch in the cooler and cold drinks in hand we took a twenty minute trip to a beautiful site.

More than reading the plaques are the people who decided this site was worth saving. What insight and determination. No Federal funds were used or state funds were used to preserve the site. These people are a wonder to me and because of them we are privileged to eat our lunch and oversee the wonders of mankind.

God Bless those who travel through my life and little blog.

John's new best friend.

I have to say that our neighbor again made us trendy by letting us use this small tiller. I say that because John prefers to use bruit strength to unearth, earth. But with temperatures being hotter than usual and the humidity higher than we are used to, this machine is heaven sent.

In Minnesota, June is a very productive month to get landscaping done. Mostly because it still is mild in temperatures and easy to work. We are finding living in the south a challenge. A good one but neither the less a challenge. All of our life we have spent in Minnesota and hence think like a Minnesotan. No problem if you live there. We always had times during the year when things happened. Especially all surrounding the weather. So, this morning while talking to John I said, hummmm we need to think Southern. Working in the middle of the day in June is hot. Working after 7:00pm is when most of our neighbors come out to do the little lawn things.

We will learn and change from Minnesota thinkers to South Carolina thinkers, until then, we will sweat more, drink more and shower more.

Have a great Sunday all, this day is the Lords. Relax and thank Him.

On a Walk

The library is not the only thing I am doing to help the feelings of loss. I am walking, it has always been a thing I have loved. But now I am taking longer ones finding things to take pictures of. So here is my favorite from yesterday.

I can't tell you what it is but plan to find out. I know it comes from a very big old tree and I feel sorry for the people who own the trees. If you have lived with oak trees you now how dirty they are. But these seed pods are about 3/4 inch in diameter and come down off the trees in large quantity.

I hope you enjoy the creepy look of the pod.

Have a great day to you all.

A Big Week

I am sorry for not getting to write more but last week was huge. We sold both of our vehicles, and replaced it with a new Taurus, than bought a house in South Carolina. It was full of ups and downs. John flew out to South Carolina to do the final drive around on houses we had picked out through Realtor.com. That by the way is a really great site to find homes.

The funny thing is that the house we bought was not on our list. The realtor Jack said he had one that he thought was still for sale. John saw the nice porch with the two rockers, one of my favorites and went after it. The house is one level except for the garage and the bonus room, waiting to be my art room. So you can imagine how tired we were after all the changes and yet working our jobs and packing.

But it is going so smoothly we can hardly believe it. By the way the yard is fully fenced and yet when Timber sits on the deck she will be able to spy all. And with time we will sculpt the yard to make it that little piece of heaven we will always call balsam ponds.

God Bless all that travel through my blog.
